Come hear Mars Hill’s own surrealist band, Spiral Garden, at their ARTSOUP debut! The group will perform original music using adapted and invented instruments and warm vocal harmonies.
The band performs the unique compositions of Barlow Prize-winning composer Ben Hjertmann. The songs are written and performed in Just Intonation, which is music based on the harmonic series, nature's own harmony.
Spiral Garden’s innovative style features liminal, dreamlike lyrics and unusual harmonies using hundreds of notes not found on the piano, yet their pieces feel warm, strangely familiar, and logical. Their 2025 self-titled release has garnered the band some attention in the international microtonal music community.
For this concert, we’ll hear favorite songs like “Shovel,” “Paramonde,” and “Septangle,” along with some never-heard-before music. Be the first to hear these new, other-worldly compositions created by your neighbors.
